I had an ultrasound last week to check out the lump in Lefty. The OB called about the report the next day, but I didn’t get the message until after his office closed for the weekend, so we didn’t get to talk about it until this morning.
OB said it’s not a cyst. It’s a solid mass with irregular edges. During the ultrasound, I noticed what looked like another “cyst” when the tech was checking out my armpit; OB says the armpit dealie is a lymph node, but it is not necessarily Bad News that it was visible on the u/s…that it could just be an infection.
I’m seeing the surgeon (same guy who did the lumpectomy in 8/02) on Wednesday afternoon* to do a consult on the biopsy the OB is recommending.
*The supa-quick appointment is because they cannot schedule the biopsy until after the consult, and Tom goes on his long business trip in two weeks, so I want him here when the biopsy is done, y’know? Plus it’ll be easier to find someone to take care of just the babies the day of the biopsy and have Tom take me to the biopsy, vs. finding someone to take me to the biopsy *and* watch the babies.

He’s pretty certain it’s just a cyst. Because I’m post-ovulatory, he says he’d like to wait until my next cycle begins to do an ultrasound to confirm the cyst and then drain it (he’d do it now, but he says breast tissue can be damaged easily at this point in the cycle).

I’m trying hard not to freak out or worry too much, but that’s hard given both my history (previous lumpectomy in same breast in 2002) and my family history (mother, grandmother, great-grandmother all had breast cancer–mother is the only one to survive it).
We won’t know anything today–the doctor is out and since he was In Charge of the previous lump, I’d rather stick with him than go to my untested PCP. So I have an appointment first thing tomorrow morning to see my guy. I imagine we’ll do a mammogram or sonogram at some point, hopefully tomorrow.

I just found an ENORMOUS lump in Lefty (the same breast that had the lump that had to be removed before). Bigger than a jellybean. Smaller than a Cadbury’s egg.
Freaking out. Calling OB’s office in the morning. God, please let it be a clogged milk duct or something harmless like that. Oh please, Lord.
